Kuranda Township
Kuranda is well known as the Village in the Rainforest and has been attracting visitors for well over a century. Initially people came to admire the mighty Barron Falls, while artisans were attracted to the region’s natural beauty and decided to call it home, creating a vibrant arts and craft culture.
Today people flock to this tiny village to enjoy both of these things, the stunning natural beauty and the relaxed atmosphere of the local markets, selling unique souvenirs and gift items. The Village in the Rainforest is open 7 days a week and Tourism Kuranda invites you to spend some time enjoying the many things to see and do in this little piece of paradise.
We found it much like Noosa on sunshine coast, it is a market and souvenir place and has long ago lost the township feel about it. The streets are all about getting people to buy or eat and drink and you are hard pressed to see a local, its is over priced and not a town anymore.

The rainforest setting and the way the station is set below the road in a gully is a very pretty place and its hard not the feel more relaxed and wander about the station looking at the gardens and plants, and this carries up into the township the green tress and cool air must be a wonder the people from overseas and I can see why people pay the money to come up here.
Barron Falls
We decide to visit the falls rather than pay the $80 each way on train which goes from Cairns to Kuranda and then $80 back to Kuranda, for now as the sky rail is not working due to repairs so it get up in price to see the rainforest and falls for two people so we walked down from the carpark at the falls which is 6 km from town and the walkway is about 2km
