WEEK, 98, SO MUCH RAIN THIS WEEK...
This week the rain has returned and its been wet and its interesting that while we were down town the other day to hear the locals complaining about cold and one was walking along going its going to snow its going the snow, and I was not that dressed up as it did not seem as cold as it had been. Time is going quick as we have some friends coming over to see us and that's only a few weeks away, plus others will be here and we will be up the road at the wilderness park by the middle of August. |
The flowers around the house have started to flower and it will be a picture in a few weeks time with all the colours out and about .
Ellen has booked a plane trip back to Brisbane in July to see the kids and catch up with friends, I will stay and look after the cats and house here as we have people coming the day after she returns.
The map is slowly being filled in with lines and that is after 4 months only so how people se the place in 3 or 4 weeks is how the bloody hell can you do it and still see the best |
We really did not travel out and about this week, its been a week of rain and cold week. Not good for walking about around here will try to go out later or over week end.
We have friends coming to visit soon and the last thing we need is for us to be under the weather and coughing and sick when they are here.
Plus we have had visitors here since Wednesday and a little down time is good and I have been reading and just generally doing small jobs

A big thing if you plan to visit Tasmania is the weather, you have to trust the reports as they are pretty good and you will notice that it can change from blue skies to rain or even snow very quickly. And the winds that will blow with a lot of force we were in the Hobart area and they said 80 to 100km winds and they came and man you don't want to be caught out on the open road pulling a van, you could be an very dangerous drive as the roads are open with the rolling hills best just to sit and wait it out.

Have been asked, what we carry as in tools, well not a lot really other than a good mix of spanners for the smaller jobs.
Some cable, fuses and such and have a draw system in back so rather then just put in together have got hold of small boxes from super cheap and packed tools in one, electric stuff in one and just bits and pieces plus one draw has small pockets to hld the stuff used all the time for easy find.
Plus air compressor, safety and winch gear, jumper leads and chains for snow. Now a lot lees than what we started with as we have full cover with RACQ , so they are the ones we call if anything happens beyond simple fixes. But am Well up on services etc. and have not been in any car troubles for now.
Don't carry extra fuel, as have 180lt tank and I stop near every two hours while towing so top ups are part of that. And the back seat of 4x4 is keep empty other than cameras , a few water bottles in a small basket between seats. have found less is best and really don't miss having lots of stuff, just things we use all the time.
We have been asked over the past little while as full timers, how you travel and save monies, Well we are house sitters not that we chase them around, we plan our travels and then we will look at if any body requires their house sat, we are at a point now that we get people asking us near 6 or 7 times a week to come and look after there places, and it hard to say no but we are booked out for months so its hard to say no sometimes.
We have saved around $15,900 in past two years and have meet some great people and had t look after cats, dogs and sheep and are always looking after chooks. They are interesting and we do our checks and understand what is required before we go and are not used as cheap labour and we don't charge and don't expect to pay for any power or water while looking after houses and we mainly do longer sits but have done 7 and 14 day sits as well.
So we choice the area and the amount of things they want done, sometimes in the house and other times we stay in van. This is so we can use that spot as our base for sight seeing the area and we will travel out some 200km sometimes to see things that are of interest to us and it so easy without the van.
Nothing worse pulling a van into an area and not knowing what its going to be like and unsure if you can park or even turn around .

As we are in Tasmania for now and were so unsure about the place we went straight to Launceston for two reasons we had friends there and it was central toa number of places we want to see and get our bearing as it was all new to us, Quickly found the van park was on a hill and we were bigger than the spots they had so we sticking out too far, but it was quiet, but open to the winds. From there we had a house sit down the centre at a place called Bagdad for a 8 week stay.

So if you are thinking were to stay, we would say off the Boat either stay in a park in Devonport or take the 25kmtrip to
Sheffield and stay in the www.gowriepark.com.au/

Nice place plenty of room if a bigger van, we are a just over 14mt so room is important to us. And from here you have a great base to visit places such Cradle mountain, Mole Creek Caves and much more, it will take a while to see all around here.
From here can go south east or west depends on your wishes we headed south for a house sit and wanted to get that end of island done first due to weather and winter that would slow us down, and we had a house sit booked for June in the north

From there going south would consider the caravan park at Longford Caravan Park. Its close to Launceston and Ben Lomond and again a bigger park for larger vans and well looked after, you will have a good base here for lots to see and still within reach of Sheffield, if you want to go back up that way.

After you have completed your stay in Langford would keep heading south and stop at Ross as it is one of those convict sites you will love to see and there is a caravan park next to the bridge and it behind the shops of town. Great place or a few days

So as you see we are moving slowly and seeing everything as we go rather then pulling the van about and not being able to see somethings due to our size and nothing worse looking for a camp late afternoon when all is full such as during the peak times Nov. To Feb. I will write more on our travels and spots next week but be careful, some places are not so easy to drive as roads are narrow and lots of logging trucks plus free camps are small and if you don't get in early no room means no camp.
Photo of The Week
So below, is the new standard Photo as the other shot has not changed at all and here this area is changing faster, but all the same will continue to check out other spot and it does change will add it back in will be the same position, so this photo taken this week, where we are staying about same day and time, so each week as the weather changes and gets well into Winter you will see the changes over the 2 months about we are here.
