WEEK95, HERE COMES THE WEATHER.

Well a week goes by so quick and we just are settling into this house sit and getting used t doing what is required of us while here and we just enjoy the cats they have their own little traits that make it interesting.
The fire is something we are not used too but with the cold weather its been great, and I am getting used to swinging the axe to get the small bits for starting the fire as the cats sit near by each morning waiting for the fire.
Ellen has picked up a volunteer job at the local second hand shop every Friday which is good she gets out and has some new people to chat with, its at the HUB in Sheffield if you are passing by drop in and say hi.
And June is our month for doing safety checks on the van and making sure first aid kits are up to scratch and fire extinguishers are in good working order.
It is also when the van has its checks and we remove stuff not need or not used in past 12 months, because you have room does not mean you need to carry it, so have to stay on top of the load we are carrying as weight means extra fuel and wear an tear, so we are careful.
I can tell you the take up of the mail out this week has been the best with a near 50% opened and read as I was wondering if it was being worth the effort but its getting better.
Plus we have had to travel the 75km one way down to Launceston this past week twice, due to Ellen seeing the quack and hope that done for a while for now, that takes a lot out of our week and so next week we should get out to visit something else if weather allows, as some would understand it hard when it gets really cold.

We have been out and about visiting the places around here and will expand into the northern coast etc. once we feel happy about how the house etc., is and we do have visitors coming and we would love to share some of those places with them. We have had people say they would visit but for someone to come over is great, as we don't really think we will be going all the way back to Queensland this year and will spend Christmas here or on the mainland as we are planning to head west next year
Early this week we headed down to Launceston, and on the way back headed into Deloraine, its a very pretty town and will be back in near future to give it the full check out. But this trip was about the food at the 50's café and wow is the word lots to look at and the food was quick and hot and to die for

Lake Barrington is an artificial lake in northern Tasmania, located 40 kilometres south of Devonport. The lake is 20 kilometres long and was built on the Forth River in 1969 to provide a head of water for the Devils Gate Power Station. Along its shores, tall eucalypt forest and lush rainforest harbour a plethora of wildlife, including possums, wallabies, pademelons, echidnas, wombats, quolls and a huge variety of birdlife including the endangered wedge-tailed eagle and grey goshawk. Lake Barrington is a designated “big fish’’ water, stocked by Inland Fisheries Service with king size fish for anglers. Lake Barrington is also ideal for water-based activities such as swimming, rowing, water skiing, power boating and canoeing. It features camping sites, picnic areas with sheltered tables, BBQs and toilets. A kiosk operates on weekends in summer and during major sporting events. No water activity is permitted within the boundaries of the international rowing course, towards the southern end of the lake.

Other than above we stayed around the house and doing the things required, like little jobs on the van and checking to car etc. as you see below we try very hard to make sure we have everything working in top order as you never know when you will need things to works to there full capacity.
We have had a few days of heavy rain and the clouds parted today so washing and it does get a lot colder when no cover is about, and more rain is due in next few days so we do what we can when weather is fine, like today I loaded up the wood hauler and topped up the wood pile so we don't need to run around in wet to get it when rain comes. Plus I am starting to pretty good with the axe and starting the fire when needed.

So you wonder why a safety issue in vans well there are many things that are part of the safe working of a van and you need to apply yourself to them all, from the way you hook up the van before you travel to the mechanical working of your van.
The brakes and lights are very important and need to work well but there are other safety issues you need to be aware of
As we come into winter its a good time to check and make sure you have a working Fire extinguishers, yes at least two types. Most vans have a powder type which is great but is a issue in small area and does not cool only covers the fire to take away the oxygen. They need to be shaken every now and again due to the powder settling and packing down so give them a shake to keep the powder loose and get new ones after 2 to 3 years. you should also have a least one Co2 extinguisher for they will better suited for fires from heaters and electric, but not oil fires. But you should know this and have a read about what can help save your van and possible life if used right.
We take safety very serious and have at least 4 powder and one co2 within the van and car in a place easy to get at an you should make sure all who travel with you now where they are kept.

Might sound silly but how many have a couple of ice packs in the freezer or fridge in car just in case. A smaller kit within the van and it should have a complete burn kit and snake kit in case car in away, plus ice pack in fridge. And last a kit within a bag you take walking in the bush with snake kit as snakes don't wait till you are in car or near van. And do add things that are not included a quick check will show you the wants you need.
As family have all medical details written up and in the kits so if something really goes bad the info will be ready to go, as during high stress times we forget the small things. But don't put off checking at least every 6 months to make sure all is up to date and replaced things used.

As long as we are into the safety thing this week every year you need to set a date the is well known to you and go though and check every battery within your van, I use tax time as mine and I check the smoke detectors and co2 detectors, plus any floor lighting in way of auto light that come on during movements at night and the big one most forget about if you have a bigger van the Battery in the breakaway system as ours is 5 years plus took it out and replaced it this year, better safe than wait til I have an issue and have been told if you get pulled over they test it to see if its charged and working

Weel not that you can see it but the water has gone very clear and yes that's a little frost is starting to settle and after good number of days of rain its getting a little greener too.
Into The Forest |
Just outside the fenced area is a water way which only runs after heavy rain and as you see its running and its loud from the house as it drops down the steep ground over lots of small water falls and is a great sound along with the bird life
