WEEK 107, WEST COAST ADVENTURES...
Well as we have now moved, just up the road to just further west of where we were to a little place west of Burnie and back into the wilds of Tasmania, its a small 5 Arce farm, with sheep and chooks again and is still close to the cradle mountain area and gives us a good road to the west coast of Tasmania which you will see photos of later down the page after our first visit.
As most of Tasmania its in winter mode the trees and gardens lack some green but over all the place is stunning with the winter flowers making up for the leaves missing from the trees.
We arrived to have a few days of fine clear weather and that ended on Thursday night and its just raining again but is to clear over next few days I believe but really not in a hurry for that to happen as it gets rather cold here when skies are clear.
So below is the house we are looking after now, plenty of grass to keep me busy mowing and gardens that need attention, Ellen again has chooks and a couple of sheep to attend to which is always fun.
And this is going to be our last house sit here in Tasmania as we have something special to go to next but I am not saying too much about it for now. For now we are here and looking after this place so the owners can be away to help look after family members that need help at this period, we shall be here for some 10 weeks I believe and have booked the boat to return back to the mainland after that and we shall be returning Tasmania in the future as we want to continue the adventure in the future.

So before the people head out we decided to visit the west coast for the day to get an idea what was about and almost straight away about 50 km west of the house we came across snow all down the highway.
We also found that Cradle mountain is not all that far away so we can revisit that area again, its a stunning place and lots more for us to see.

As we drove along the stunning vistas with the mountains and snow covered mountains just cant stopping us from just stopping and taking it in, there is no rubbish along the roads which is good to see and they are in good order as well, I was noting as we drove along if they would be ok for pulling a van as we did a full circle down to Queenstown and up to Strahan Village and back to Ridley where we are staying
We were looking forward to visiting Queenstown and as we came down the hill into the open view of town, we were expecting the hills to be bare due to the mining and, but over all disappointed with the state of the township it self, and the worse part was that the locals do blame the mine for that.
Now we have visited a lot of old mining towns and the people don't allow that to stop keeping the town in soon sort of repair and look after the old building which after all that's what we all come for to see how it was and I understand that money is needed to upkeep this towns and an Mining Museum will not help that much, when you cant walk some parts of the footpaths because the old building are falling apart and as time goes on a fire or they will have to pull down these building and then they have a hole in the ground or a empty block and then its too late to recovers that history |
The water way though town is turning everything red and its not a good look, maybe they will get the place fixed up as it would be shame to lose the town with so much history. Just remember you can buy a house here for around 38 thousand to 135 thousand but will need work and no real big food shops or much else, |
As you walk about the town it is run down all though town and funny enough the roads and footpaths are prefect which is odd because people come to see and enjoy the building and views to the snow capped mountain, not the footpaths.
The coffee shops are old and run down in main street and are not very inviting at all. We left town feeling the town is letting it self and the rest of Tasmania as its the only place were the history of the place is let to die and the people we spoke to blame everybody else but themselves for letting it down |
From thee we took the winding road over to Strahan and it was so different in that its a smaller place but its neat and hoses are in good order and they have at least have a good feel around town and it has embraced the fact that people come to town for the boat trips and they have added BNB's everywhere and have got out and have much more to see then Queenstown.
And here is photo of the week, it was so cold one morning yes cold, here is a couple of small stones I put in a pond of water some 75mm deep yet they are not wet or went to the bottom, they are seating on the ice. So below in the second photo is were you can see where I stepped in pond and broke ice up in the corner
