Part No. 6 The Lists and More Lists

Hello again, so you are back and still reading good to see, now I said I would give you checklists, now they may not suit your set up, but you can change and add as you need to these lists as you need and I hope you do.
A simple Set up, is the Best setup.

Car

·         Check that mirrors are secured, and you can appropriately see out of them;
·         Check water/coolant in the engine, and level of brake fluid;
·         Check tyre pressure, including the spare;
·         Test all lights;
·         Ensure any air shockers fitted are inflated; and
·         Install an insect screen in front of the radiator.
Rig
·         Check all windows, cupboards, and hatches are closed;
·         Pack fire extinguisher;
·         Check gas bottle is secure and water tank filled with clean water;
·         Check brakes;
·         Check the fridge for mold, and if clean, turn it on;
·         Check that fridge door is locked;
·         Adjust wheel bearings;
·         Check that steps have been raised;
·         Test lights;
·         Ensure gas is turned off;
·         Check that stabilizer jacks are raised;
·         Check that electrical plug is connected to rig and tow vehicle
·         Check that jockey wheel is removed.
·         Remember the wife
·         Yes, need to take the kids

Get the wife in the car say you're goodbyes and drive out and head off for about 1 or 2 km and stop and make sure its all good and head to the new place feeling happy you have it right, Lets double check that list again.

Maintenance Before you leave, make sure you double check the essentials on your vehicle, even if you just checked them the day before. Things to check include:

·         Tyres;
·         Fluid levels (brake, coolant, oil, clutch, automatic transmission, power steering, water);
·         Lights (headlights, high-beams, reverse, indicators, brake);
·         Windscreen wipers;
·         Battery;
·         Fan belt;
·         Coolant hoses; and
·         Tow bar and connections.
You’ll also need to check the essentials on your rig:
·         Tow fittings, couplings, and safety chains are correctly fastened;
·         Number plate and registration is visible;
·         Loads are evenly distributed;
·         Electrical connections are secure, and lights are working; and
·         Trailer brakes.
·
Safety checklist even after years of experience, you can still miss a thing or two when hooking and unhooking a caravan or trailer.
 In creating a list, you limit the risk of something important being over looked. Your pre-hook up checklist should include ensuring that:
·         The awning is locked;
·         Aerial stowed;
·         Clothesline stowed;
·         Windows closed;
·         Top vents closed;
·         Inside doors are closed;
·         Loose items stored;
·         Water pump off;
·         Power cord disconnected;
·         Water hose disconnected;
·         Waste hose disconnected;
·         Fridge turned off;
·         Hot water system off;
·         Support legs removed;
·         Step raised; and
·         Front door locked.
Your post-hookup checklist should include making sure that:
·         The drawbar is securely clipped to tow ball;
·         Safety chains are connected and crossed
·         Jockey wheel removed;
·         Housing retightened;
·         Van handbrake off;
·         Weight distribution hitch connected;
·         Electric brake emergency breakaway cable is connected;
·         Wheel chocks are removed; and
·         Mirrors connected.

There is nothing worse than hearing on the CB radio or a car beeping its horn at you because you forgot something.

That covers the high points I look at and more but am trying hard to keep my OCD in order here and any help you need, please feel free to ask.
Hope you got past all that with breathing ok, its not too bad and you will do in your sleep after the 100th. Time.
But There is more, what the Hell More are you sure, Yes sorry if you are a full timer it gets bigger and bigger
Another checklist you’ll need is one for the items you need to pack. What you pack will depend largely on how long you’re going for and what climate you’re travelling to. If you’re setting off on a long trip, these are some of the items you should consider having on your list:
·         Medicare card, health records, pensioner card, etc;
·         Radio, CDs, and DVDs;
·         First aid kit;
·         BBQ tools;
·         Device chargers, including a solar charger;
·         Toiletries;
·         Folding chairs;
·         Appropriate footwear and a pair of thongs, i ahve two going out ones and around the van types
·         Firelighters, we are not all Boy scouts
·         Torch lenty of them they get lost so easy.
·         Warm and cool clothes;
·         Insect repellent;
·         Maps, GPS system;
·         Batteries;
·         Food;
·         Campsite guides;
·         Bedding; and extra Blankets For wife.
·         Levelling blocks.
Before you go Preparation is the number one key to success when preparing for a trip around Australia. Before you go, ensure that you:
·         Check the weather;
·         Practice setting up and raising the awning;
·         Learn first aid basics;
·         Leave your itinerary with a friend or family member;
·         Consider upgrading your NRMA/ RACQ membership to include roadside assistance and towing for your caravan, motorhome, or RV;
·         Learn to build a fire; and
·         Learn camping etiquette and the expectations of certain campsites.
And breath again, so thats about all you need to understand in this part, after all that just go out and enjoy sitting under the awning and watching people look for stuff in their car, they thought they bought and are blaming everyone else for moving it, its such fun.
Thats about all for now and i hope you are feeling good about all this and are thinking i got this sorted and its not so bad. till Next Time.
