Port Douglas

We headed out along the highway towards Port Douglas this drive along the highway in parts is breath taking as the rainforest meets the sea, the beaches change from sandy white stretches to rocky beaches with smooth polished stones from being rolled over and over in the waves, the water changes colours from light blue to dark aqua green colours depending on how high you are when looking into the sea.

As we drove along you pass places like Palm Cove and other beaches you see in the tour books and then you are back into cane fields or the road opens up and you are 20 ft. from the water again.

We turned into the Port Douglas Main Street leading into town, the streets are lined with palm trees as I remember but they have grown up now and are so tall and green in fact as you look about the green is everywhere and you once could see the resort from road but now it's hidden away behind the palms and lush trees that are everywhere.

We drove the main shopping street which screams money, and parked up at the waters edge near the docks and checked out the water before heading back into town and parking and wandering down the street with all the big name shops everywhere with stuff most people could never afford like jocks from $50 per pair, I did see a very colourful flower shirt for me $20 very bright

The main shopping road, lots of shops along here

Every town needs a shop like this but did not expect to see one here.

The old cemetery which is long side the main road.

The road into town is wide and green

One of the many beaches as you drive the road to cairns this one is not sandy but covered in rocks which are polished up from the waves rolling them over and over

Picture
Stones are so nice would look great in a fish tank or around a garden somewhere but as the sign says !!

Picture
It may not look it but the stones are hard to walk over as they are so loose and piled up by the waves on high tide.

This is about half way between cairns and port Douglas, just stacks of rocks, but just in this section of coast. Either the locals or people driving past but its a strange thing to see.
Picture
Its just like a mini little city of rocks balanced on top of each other.
