We decided to stop here as it was a central place and the Showgrounds said to be good, well we arrived in the afternoon and it has nobody around such as a caretaker and we drove near where others were staying and asked how it worked since we had paid.
We got the full story on how she had to call police because the drunks were trying to kill each other and so forth, we parked the van and waited to see how it would go. Well that night it was good no noise to speak about .
but we did see the shower time under the taps the next day and the shouting at each other across the place. It is that sort of place where you would not drop a piece of paper because someone would steal it, it has that feel about it.
we locked up everything and went out and visited what we wanted to see and they did not really bother us.
in fact one of the guys came over late afternoon on our last day and offered me passion fruit and did say sorry for all the noise etc. and how he had to be out by Friday as they had had enough of them, he had no shirt on and covered in scars and needle marks on both arms, you feel sorry for them but they can only get out by ‘helping themselves .

Don’t get me wrong it could be a nice place just look at the photos, it’s a real country Showgrounds with all the old buildings and it up high so you get a good view of the river.
The sky lights up with rainbows when the rain and dark clouds roll in and the old farm land around is stunning, as of late the smoke and general haze has been not good for photos. The weather has been steamy and thank you for the air conditioner
The streets around are tree lined and the houses some are really old and beautiful, just look at the gate entrance to ‘the Showgrounds in the photos above and down further it a grand entrance.
we really don’t do big towns because they are no more than shops and people we look for what makes the area and it old history and how they deal with what they have.
when you look at the photos below the history and the effort the past put into the place and what they are doing to let people know about it.

There is something happening near everyday, the locals even had a game of cricket, most afternoon so the Showgrounds are used and they have a walk down to the river and people are here everyday using it.
Look I am not just saying things about this place I did write a letter to the council and there reply was the best passing the buck letter I have received, they tried to say that in their efforts to help the homeless and lower class people, they help by allowing them to stay in the grounds living in poor old busses and campers trailers, without any one to keep an eye on them and leave them at night to drink and take drugs as they can.
We saw police come twice a day drove in and out not speak to them or anyone about how they felt or if they had any issues with the squatters, but they charge people like us $28 a night and no warning about what it’s like to camp here and you do feel unsafe and I would not return unless they made improvements to make it more safe and really you have to trust those around you and feel safe or move on quick.
