THE ANIMALS OF TASSIE
This page is for all the animals we came across in Tassie and some we spend a little time just getting to see them, we visited Cradle mountain at least five times and we saw one Wombat on our first visit just walking down the road but by the time we stopped he had made a run for it and was in the bush so it was a very short look.
But the best time we got to see them was when it was snowing and the road was icy and bloody cold and as we came around a corner there he was just strolling down the road, which is the photo below Ellen got out and walked with him as a few cars were coming along but he just keep going and down the hill he went without a worry in the world. Funny thing is there were a good number around that day and Ellen goy a good pat from our walker and a baby thought my shoes were food and came after me and I had to back up as he followed me about till he got bored and went on his way.
The slide show below has a few more shots we took of the Wombats that day they just seemed to be about for us.

So after hearing all the stories about our friends below and hearing them at night in the places we looked after and being told how mean they were to chooks we headed off to the Tassie Devil park at Cradle Mountain to visit them and see for ourselves and they do look cute and shy but after seeing what they can do to their food I can understand why they kill the chooks and other small creatures they are mean and they have big strong jaws that can crash bones.
We also got to see the devils in their wild, which are huge fenced area's that is the same as their bush homes so they can protect and breed them up as some are being killed off by a virus in the wild, they played and were watching us as much as we watched them and are small but can they scream a lot and at night in the bush would be a force if you did not know what they are
So the little fellow below was walking across the highway and when a car went passed we turned about and headed the outher way and near got hit we stopped and help guide him off the road and for that effort he dug himself into the grass line at edge of road as he must have thought we were a danger to him, was very small but I was not going to handle with those spikes.
But he seemed ok when we left him to his own way.

Now it had just stopped snowing and we were heading back to car after a hot coffee and this guy did look very unhappy with the world, just moving along and making a huge noise and was well water logged and a little cold.
We meet some more than friendly types along the way as we looked after all peoples pets no matter how big or small.
